The 2023 summer field day for Maryland grape growers was held at Corteau Vineyards in the brand new tank room of their winery – https://corteauvineyards.com/
Between lectures, field scouting, and demonstrations, we had a full schedule and avid interest from the more than 50 attendees.
The Byrne family hosts, vineyard and winery staff, Maryland and Pennsylvania extension specialists and University of Maryland researchers and other presenters spent the day relaying valuable knowledge on pest management, vineyard mechanization techniques (from the Vigneron Toy Store), vineyard labor options (from Maryland Vineyard Management) and the terroir of the expanding Corteau vineyard plantings. Photos (credit Wick Dudley, MGGA president) show many of the activities for the day, which alternated between 90+ degree outside and a cool 65 degres in the tank room. The scratch food truck who initially expected 3 additional orders from our meeting was very busy preparing food for the majority of attendees, and the winery visitors.
Twelve attendees earned 8 pesticide applicator license continuing education credits due to the technical nature of content presented at the meeting.
This once a year event is an unparalleled opportunity for Maryland grape growers to gather and share their knowledge and experiences in a vineyard setting.
