Winegrape Growers of America – May 5 Appropriations Update

With the House Appropriations Committee (HAC) submissions portal closed for Member requests, attention now turns to the Senate on the same.  The Senate Appropriations Committee (SAC) subcommittee deadlines started this week, with the full list of deadlines provided here.

There is still no decision on timing or process for consideration of President Biden’s latest Ukraine supplemental request of $33 billion, but Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) predicted the Senate could act “as soon as next week”. Questions remain as to whether President Biden’s COVID-19 funding request will also be part of an agreement should one come together.

Below is a list of hearings this week for SAC. Please reach out if you have any questions:

1. Tuesday, May 3: SAC Defense Subcommittee – Hearings to examine proposed budget estimates and justification for fiscal year 2023 for the Department of Defense.
2. Tuesday, May 3: SAC CJS Subcommittee – A Review of the President’s Fiscal Year 2023 Funding Request for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the National Science Foundation
3. Tuesday, May 3: SAC FSGG Subcommittee – Hearings to examine proposed budget estimates and justification for fiscal year 2023 for the Internal Revenue Service.
4. Wednesday, May 4: SAC LHHS Subcommittee – Hearings to examine proposed budget estimates and justification for fiscal year 2023 for the Department of Health and Human Services.
5. Wednesday, May 4: SAC Interior Subcommittee – Hearings to examine proposed budget estimates and justification for fiscal year 2023 for the Forest Service.
6. Wednesday, May 4: SAC Homeland Security Subcommittee – Hearings to examine proposed budget estimates and justification for fiscal year 2023 for the Department of Homeland Security.
7. Wednesday, May 4: SAC E&W Subcommittee – Hearings to examine proposed budget estimates and justification for fiscal year 2023 for the Department of Energy.
8. Wednesday, May 4: SAC Milcon-VA Subcommittee – Hearings to examine proposed budget estimates and justification for fiscal year 2023 and advance appropriations requests for fiscal year 2024 for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
9. Thursday, May 5: Senate Budget Committee – Hearings to examine whether taxpayer dollars should go to companies that violate labor laws.
